Ekaterina Mihailova, Chairperson of the Board

Ekaterina Mihailova, Chairperson of the Board  Ekaterina Mihailova is Chairperson of the Managing Board of the Reason Institute. She has graduated in law from Sofia University. She has been attorney at law with the Pazardzhik Bar. At present, she is Member of Parliament and Deputy Chairperson of the 41st National Assembly. She is also Deputy Chairperson of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria. She has been Member of Parliament in the 36th, 37th, 38th, 39th, and 40th National Assembly. Mrs. Mihailova has also held the positions of Chairperson of the UDF Parliamentary Group, Chairperson of the ADF Parliamentary Group, Deputy Chairperson of the DSB Parliamentary Group, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary General and Chairperson of the Union of Democratic Forces. She lectures at New Bulgarian University and the Southwestern University “Paisii Hilendarski” on Parliamentarism and the Rule of Law in Bulgaria – Theory and Practice. She is the author of the book entitled “Parliamentarism and the Rule of Law in Bulgaria”.

Alexander Politov, Executive Director and member of the Managing Board

Alexander Politov, Executive Director and member of the Managing BoardAlexander Politov is Executive Director and member of the Managing Board of Reason Institute. He holds BA degree in Political Science and International Relations from the American University in Bulgaria, MA in Political Science from the Central European University, Budapest, and PhD in Political Science from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Alexander Politov has extensive experience in project development and management. He has been Program Coordinator and Coordinator of the Regional Program at the Bulgarian School of Politics (2003 – 2010). He has worked at the Political Academy for Central and Southeastern Europe on a project “Political Programs and Platforms Issued in Bulgaria during the Transition Period: a Comparative Study” (2003 - 2010). In the period 1997 – 2002 he has held consecutively the positions of assistant at the International Department, International Secretary and Internal Policy Secretary of the Union of Democratic Forces. He has also been Assistant at the office of the Minister of Justice and European Legal Integration (1997 – 1998). Languages spoken: English. Svetlana Lomeva, member of the Managing Board

Svetlana Lomeva, member of the Managing BoardSvetlana Lomeva holds MA degree in Political Science from Sofia University. She is one of the founders of the Bulgarian School of Politics and has been its Director until July 2009. Since 2002 she has been lecturer at New Bulgarian University, and in the period 2003 – 2005 has held the position of Director of the Center for Continuing Education at the same university. Svetlana Lomeva has been Director of the Political Academy for Central and Southeastern Europe. She has had specializations at Robert Schumann Institute, Budapest, the American University in Bulgaria and the Council of Europe. She has been guest lecturer with the Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management and the Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, USA. Svetlana Lomeva is one of the founders and member of the European Political Training Association at the Council of Europe, member of the International Network for Conflict Resolution and Peace Building, member of the Managing Board of the Reason Institute and of the Editorial Board of the Reason, Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Balkanica Secondary School. Publications: “Internal Party Democracy” in Reshaping the Broken Image of Political Parties, 2007; “The Agenda of Political Parties and the Agenda of Society in the Context of European Integration”, 2004; “European Citizenship” 2002. She speaks English and has a working knowledge of Russian.
